    About this project

Richard B. from Licht in Lateinamerika Deutschland e.V. is responsible for this project
Life in indigenous reserves in Central America is characterized by widespread poverty and a lack of prospects. The indigenous population in Central America is often considered to be second class citizens. There is little interest to help them. What's more, Central America is struggling with substantial political and economic problems, which is why there is hardly any sustainable help in sight to improve the standard of living of a minority such as the indigenous people.

With targeted training, this projects aims at combatting the widespread hopelessness in the indigenous reserves. A scholarship for a 1-month training module enables an indigenous student from Nicaragua, Costa Rica or Panama to attend holistic training in vocational, social and spiritual areas at the training center of Light in Latin America in Costa Rica. The training is carried out according to the principle of "helping people to help themselves". As an objective, the students put into practice their knowledge in their region. Through further training and coaching, they may turn into important multipliers and bearers of hope in their area.

In addition to the training, local projects are initiated and supported in the indigenous reserves. Individual mentoring is ensured by local indigenous representatives and project visits by the staff of Light in Latin America.

Vocational training is provided in four areas: agriculture, forestry, mechanics, and wood working. In addition, the students receive general education in accounting, Spanish, mathematics, first aid, and attend classes in social and bible study. A separate program is offered for female students, including handicraft, cooking/dietetics, agriculture, hygiene, Spanish and social and bible studies. A savings project is part of every course. The students can save a small amount of money. At the end of the course, they receive an interest on the amount saved and may buy important utilities such as tools or seeds.

The basic training is completed within 2 years and includes various modules. Costs for 1 student::
    1 four-week module = 400 EURO, incl.
    - Transport, food & accommodation
    - Course material/instructors
    - Healthcare
    - Micro-savings project

Are you ready to donate a piece of hope? Every EURO counts! Your contribution helps to combat widespread poverty and hopelessness in the indigenous reserves. With this project, a student gets the chance to attend a course module and turn into an important bearer of hope in his/her region.
