About this project

Martin Reiter from VzF e.V. is responsible for this project
The Federal Coordination for Internationalism (www.buko.info) is one of the oldest grassroots networks in Germany and is best known for the BUKO congresses of the same name. The 40th congress will take place from October 2 to 5, 2025, in Kassel under the motto: “End all colonialism! - Recognition, resistance, reparations -”.
Even though the era of colonialism appears to be over and anti-colonial struggles have led to formal independence in most countries, we encounter colonial or neocolonial patterns everywhere. We want to not only inform ourselves about this, but also think together about what we can do about it.
Marginalized communities have always fought back against slavery, bondage, and exploitation—through disobedience, by building alternative forms of coexistence, politics, and economic activity, or through violent uprisings. In the development of modernity, those in power often compared these mutinies, strikes, and revolts to a many-headed hydra: as soon as one head was cut off, two new ones grew back. We believe it is time to bring together the struggles against colonialism, neocolonialism, and capitalism, against racism in all its forms (including, in particular, anti-Semitism and antiziganism), against patriarchy, against domination and oppression in all their forms, and thus to strengthen the many-headed hydra.
BUKO40 is not just a congress, but an interface between different social movements and perspectives, between science and activism, between discussion and networking. It is an emancipatory space supported by the people who organize it together. Four days of exchange, workshops, lectures, and discussions, with an extensive film and cultural program. Whether you come from the feminist movement, are involved in anti-racist or anti-fascist organizations, are active in trade unions or at university, do important work for human rights or in the environmental movement, or use your voice to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights or a post-migrant society—you are all warmly invited to help shape BUKO40 with us.
