About this project

Marie Oberst from TEC - Teaching. Equality. Coding. e.V. is responsible for this project
What motivates more than playful learning and contact with personal role models?
she.codes by TEC is a volunteer initiative and an officially recognized university group at KIT and TUM. Our vision is to inspire young people—especially girls—to engage with computer science and technical topics, and to be approachable role models for them. To achieve this, we offer programming workshops and mentoring programs for girls aged 11–14 across Germany. Since October 2019, we’ve successfully conducted many courses—more than 800 girls have participated in our online and in-person workshops.
In these sessions, the girls learn to combine creativity with programming in a playful way and write their first own programs.
Since last year, we have also been organizing the she.speaks panel—not only to support girls, but also female students and young professionals. Through open exchange, we aim to empower female students with the confidence and knowledge they need for a successful career start.
We offer various workshop formats, some held online and others in person:
  • Beginner Workshop "Rock-Paper-Scissors": In this workshop, girls get their first taste of programming and are introduced to the Python programming language.
  • The code-togetHER Program: Over four individual workshops spread across 2.5 months, girls learn to program and build on the knowledge gained in previous sessions. They are accompanied by a personal mentor, with whom they can meet and exchange ideas between sessions. No prior knowledge is required for the Code-Together Program.
  • Advanced Workshop "Tic Tac Toe": A follow-up workshop for girls who want to deepen their newly acquired knowledge after participating in the beginner workshop.
  • The Calliope Mini Workshop: This one is all about hardware! No previous experience is needed to program our mini-computer, and the girls can create their very first own game on it.

Our online workshops allow for participation from all over Germany, while many of our in-person workshops are held in the Munich and Karlsruhe areas.

If you would like to support our work and contribute to encouraging girls in STEM fields, we would greatly appreciate a donation!
As a volunteer initiative under the umbrella organization T.E.C. – Teaching. Equality. Coding. e.V., we fund our workshops and all necessary materials through donations and grants. Donations are used to purchase software licenses, hardware, and learning materials, as well as to organize in-person workshops and team events. This enables us to continually expand our workshop program and provide participants with a great learning experience.
