What is the problem?
A beautiful forest area on Markusberg Hill in Trier – part of the Meulenwald Landscape Conservation Area – is up for sale. This natural gem is home to rare species like fire salamanders, green woodpeckers, and garden dormice. Without protection, it could fall victim to commercial use.
Whom do we want to help?
We want to protect local flora and fauna and preserve a place of untouched nature for the people of Trier. This forest plays a vital role in air purification, water retention, and cooling the microclimate – essential for local quality of life.
How do we plan to proceed?
With your donations, we aim to purchase the 7,614 m² forest area and leave it untouched forever – without logging or any other human intervention. The current owner supports our project and offers the forest at a reduced price.
Who is involved?
Wilde Wälder, the non-profit organization, is responsible for the forest’s protection. Our team of nature conservation experts and volunteers will ensure the long-term preservation and care of the area.
Is there a timeline?
Once we reach the required sum of €9,898, we will sign the purchase contract. Our goal is to complete the acquisition within the coming months so that we can protect the forest as quickly as possible.
What exactly do we need donations for?
The total amount of €9,898 covers:
- The purchase price of the forest
- Land transfer tax
- Notary and administrative fees
Every euro will go directly toward purchasing and protecting the forest.
What will happen to the forest after the purchase?
The forest will remain untouched, and no commercial use will take place. It will serve as a refuge for animals and plants and will be open to the public for nature-friendly recreation.
What happens with surplus donations?
If we raise more than €9,898, the additional funds will be used to protect more forest areas in the region.
