About this project

Anja van Eijsden from DER HAFEN HILFT! e.V. is responsible for this project
Needle & Harbour – Sewing with Heart and Purpose

At “Needle & Harbour”, our amazing volunteers turn donated fabrics into practical, beautiful and meaningful items – all with love, skill and a strong sense of sustainability.

What once were cruise ship tablecloths now become drawstring bags, pencil cases, neck pillows or reusable shopping totes.

Each piece is handmade and often passed directly on to people in need – in Hamburg or abroad.

One of our most important missions:
We sew reusable sanitary pads for girls and young women in Africa.

Made from soft cotton and absorbent molton, these pads are washable and durable – and they help ensure that teenagers can attend school even during their period.

“Needle & Harbour” shows what hands and hearts can create:

Sewing as a form of climate action, dignity and solidarity.
