About this project

What do we want to do? Last year, the Children's Clinic at Klinikum Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide moved into our new building, "Haus K." It now has approximately 2,000 square meters of floor space at its disposal, where the pediatric ward, the neuropediatric unit and the pediatric outpatient clinic have found their new, larger home. Through some expenditures, some of the hallways have already been colorfully decorated; this will now be continued.
How do we plan to implement this? We're using pictures painted by sick children during their stays with us as a template. We've selected the most beautiful ones to have them professionally painted on the walls. Since this special improvement isn't covered by public funding for the construction costs, we're looking for donors.
Who benefits from this project and how?
In recent years, our children's clinic has treated around 9,000 children per year, both as outpatients and inpatients, and with the increased capacity provided by the new facilities, this number is likely to rise. The children's clinic at the Bremerhaven-Reinkenheide Municipal Hospital serves the region comprising the city of Bremerhaven, the Cuxhaven district, and parts of the Wesermarsch and Rotenburg/Wümme districts, with a population of approximately 500,000, including an estimated 90,000 children. We offer these children and their families the security of competent medical care. This care should address not only the physical but also the emotional needs of sick children. A child-friendly atmosphere and respect for children's autonomy are very important to us.
The children's paintings on the walls contribute to this in several ways: Firstly, they bring colour and joy to the rooms, so that children and parents can feel at home. Secondly, we deliberately choose paintings painted by children. This demonstrates that we take the children seriously and value them. Thirdly, the pictures also help with orientation, as they make the hallways and junctions all look different.
We are therefore hoping for sufficient donations to cover - step by step - all the hallways of the children's ward and pediatric outpatient clinic with colorful murals.
