Discover gardens playfully

Stiftung Gartenkultur
A project from Stiftung Gartenkultur in Illertissen, Germany
Discover gardens and gardening through play. With this motto, we aim to reconnect children and young people with their environment at the Jungviehweide. One component of this is the provision of historical and contemporary garden games.

About this project

Matthias Rausch from Stiftung Gartenkultur is responsible for this project
The Stiftung Gartenkultur is the nucleus for the regenerative development of gardens, landscapes, people, and societies. Through its actions, it contributes to a humane society and the preservation of our ecosystems. And what easier way to regenerate and relax than through play?

There is already an age-appropriate playground for young children, which was expanded over the winter months. When children of primary school age and older and young people visit the grounds with their parents and grandparents, they have not yet found any age-specific activities. They usually reach for their cell phones.

In a very accessible offering, we now want to provide various historical and contemporary garden games for children and young people on the grounds, including skittles, hoop-hitting, and a slackline. The historical garden games should also serve as starting points for intergenerational exchange, as grandparents share stories about how they played with them back then.

The play equipment should also be available for use during recess for activities for children and young people.

The activities should be freely available. A rental system will be implemented on site through volunteers if necessary.

Our goal is to acquire the play stations in the summer and put them into use in the gardens. For this year's Mouse Door Opener Day on October 3rd, we are planning a large event, where we will open the doors to our collection of historical garden games. We would especially like to invite grandparents and their grandchildren to this event.

Donations are needed to purchase the play equipment. Everything else is done on a voluntary basis by the foundation.
