OHOMA Uganda e.V. is committed to providing education and a safe environment for half-orphans and full-orphans in Uganda. The name "OHOMA" stands for "Orphan Home Masaka." Located in southern Uganda, about three hours from the capital Kampala, the city is an important regional center with approximately 75,000 inhabitants.
Founded in spring 2024, our association follows the shared vision of three former volunteers from Germany and Wasswa Shaban from Masaka, who met during a one-year volunteer service there in 2022/2023. Wasswa Shaban grew up as an orphan himself and received support from an aid organization as a child, giving him a chance at education.
Our initiative currently covers the school fees for 13 half-orphans and full-orphans in Masaka. Five of these children cannot live with relatives and are therefore dependent on foster families. In addition to school fees, we need donations to cover these children's accommodation costs and provide them with a safe home.
Another goal is to help children who struggle to walk to school. Some children have health limitations, while others travel a very long distance to school every day. We want to ensure that all children have access to education – regardless of their personal challenges.
We also want to give the children an opportunity for relaxation and personal development during the holidays. Therefore, the children can participate in a holiday program that includes music or sports activities. These programs nurture their talents, allow them to discover their passions, and develop new skills.
Shaban lives in Masaka and is working with his team to build OHOMA. He meets regularly with the children and is in constant contact with them to ensure they receive the support they need.
Partnerships and friendly communication with our team in Uganda are our focus. Transparency and openness are fundamental principles of our work. Therefore, it is important to us to make our decisions and actions transparent and to regularly inform our supporters about our progress.
