About this project
The Zonta Club Nürnberg supports the FGM/C (Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting) department at pro familia Nürnberg in establishing a gynecologists' network in the Nürnberg region. The goal of the network is to ensure appropriate medical care and counseling for affected women.
Our activities:
✔ Distribution of informational brochures to gynecological practices
✔ Recruiting doctors for the network
✔ Organizing meetings and expert lectures
✔ Providing interpreters and cultural mediators for patients
The network supports women affected by genital mutilation and cutting both at the pro familia Nürnberg counseling center and in community accommodations. Professionals and doctors are sensitized and trained. The counseling and prevention services are aimed at the affected individuals, professionals, and multipliers.
Join us and help build a strong support network for affected women in our region!
Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a severe human rights violation with profound physical and psychological consequences for those affected. In Germany, over 100,000 women have suffered from this cruel practice. They endure chronic pain, infections, incontinence, infertility, and complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Many also struggle with anxiety disorders, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Additionally, more than 17,000 girls in Germany are at risk of FGM/C.
