Amal is Arabic and means hope. Since 2023, the Düsseldorf-based organizations STAY! and fiftyfifty have been supporting people in Syria affected by the devastating earthquake. After the revolution and the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, we founded the Hope - Amal project and have been trying to support the actions of our partners in Syria through small and large donations.
Our latest goal is to fund streetlights in Syria. After the upheaval and 14 years of civil war, the country’s entire infrastructure has collapsed. There is hardly any drinking water, only a few hours of electricity per day, and no state-provided services. Crime has risen dramatically. In a small Christian village in the Tartous district, people no longer dare to leave their homes at night. There is no street lighting anymore. Social life ends with sunset.
We want to change that! With just 25 solar lamps, all the streets in the village can be illuminated again. Safety would return to the village. More than 300 families would benefit from these 25 solar lamps. In Syria, social life often takes place on the streets and in public spaces. Especially in difficult times, it is important for people to be able to visit each other.
Help us bring a little hope to Syria. Contribute to ensuring that people in Syria can once again visit each other after sunset.
