About this project
In many cities there is not enough living space. Female students in particular often find themselves in difficult situations and are confronted with unreasonable demands.
A particularly problematic practice is the offer of “sex for rent”. These demands can arise both before the apartment is confirmed and during the tenancy.
In addition, many landlords want extensive documents from applicants that are questionable in terms of data protection - including private information and even irrelevant documents.
For fear of not getting the apartment, many apartment seekers willingly disclose sensitive data. This increases the risk of abuse and leads to a feeling of powerlessness.
Solution approach: Step 1–3
Step 1: Analysis & education
Organization of dinner meetings and moderated discussions with those affected and experts
Collection of experience reports and preparation of a report on the extent and consequences of this problem
Step 2: Development of digital solutions
Collaboration with data protection experts and IT specialists to develop a secure platform
Goal: Protection of those looking for housing and provision of information about their rights
Step 3: Cooperation & alternative solutions
Discussions with existing housing platforms (e.g. classifieds portals)
Development of fair alternatives to the search for housing
Long term: Development of our own digital portal for safe and fair housing offers
