Birthday celebrations im Mathare slum 2025

At our primary school in the ‘Mathare’ slum in Kenya's capital Nairobi, we offer the children not only education, clothing, food and enough to drink, but also care and a protected environment. As the school also serves as an orphanage for some of the pupils, it is all the more important to us to offer the children the opportunity to promote social interaction in their difficult situation. To this end, we have decided to organise a birthday party at our school at the end of each month to celebrate all the birthday children of the previous month together with the school community. This will include a special meal that is a little different from the meals served on other days. We would also like to give each birthday child of the month a small gift (e.g. new coloured pencils, paper for colouring, etc.). We firmly believe that these celebrations give the children joy, community and hope once a month and thus make an important contribution to social education at our primary school in the slum.
