In Bertoua, in eastern Cameroon, access to education and opportunities for lifelong learning are limited. Books are scarce and often limited to school materials, and education levels are among the lowest in the country.
Disadvantaged groups such as the Mbororo community, refugees and displaced persons have little access to education and cultural programmes.
We would like to establish a library on the grounds of the Rising International Bilingual School to promote education and encounters - for children, young people and adults.
Our library will:

Our library will:
- We will promote a culture of reading and encourage enthusiasm for reading with books, workshops and readings.
- We will strengthen inclusion and provide a safe space that is open to all.
- We will create future prospects and provide access to books and digital learning opportunities to improve career opportunities.
This is our plan:
- Renovation (transforming a room with painting, lighting and creating a pleasant learning environment)
- Furnish (furniture such as shelves, tables and comfortable seating, and a digital area with computers and internet)
- Stock development (acquisition of African and international literature, bilingual books and learning materials, collection of games to promote social interaction); and
- Opening and running (ceremonial opening and launch of events/activities such as readings and book clubs and ongoing running with regular expansion of the programme).
Our target groups are children and young people who love to read and learn, adults who want to continue their education, teachers looking for innovative materials and refugees and migrants who want to acquire language skills.
Donations needed: Renovation materials (paint, tools, lighting), furniture and digital equipment, building a diverse book collection, and logistics and transport.
