Be a ray of hope for queer young people - support the anyway youth center in Cologne!
In a city that is known for its openness like Cologne, you might think that coming out is no longer a big issue. But the reality is different:
For many LGBTQI* people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and inter*), the path to finding themselves is still rocky. Everyday life at anyway shows how often fear, loneliness and discrimination shape the reality of these young people's lives.
• 63% report that their sexual or gender identity is not taken seriously in their families.
• 16% are insulted and ridiculed at home.
• 3% even report violence within their own homes.
That is the reason why anyway exists. It is not just a youth center - but a safe haven for strength and community. The anyway creates space to develop a positive self-perspective, self-esteem and convey the feeling a of “you are exactly right the way you are”.
But anyway cannot continue to do this without your support. Part of anyways operation is funded by local and state municipal funds, but this is far from enough and is unstable. On top of this anyway needs to raise at least €60,000 each year just to maintain its counseling and leisure activities.
Pass on your freedom.
Perhaps you still remember what it was like to be young and insecure. Maybe you had people who helped you back then or you would have also wanted more support. Today you have the opportunity to give exactly that opportunity to others.
