Support the Forest of the Future: Augustdorfer Zukunftswald

The Community for Nature Conservation Senne and OWL e.V. (GNS), in collaboration with the Environmental Foundation Lippe, is proud to launch the environmental education project "Augustdorfer Zukunftswald".

Starting in Spring 2025, 200 trees from climate-resilient species will be planted on the GNS site to create a future-oriented forest. Informative signs will provide visitors with key insights about each tree species, including their characteristics, natural distribution, and climate adaptability. The project aims to raise awareness about sustainable forestry and the challenges of climate change.

Why the Augustdorfer Zukunftswald?

Climate change is visibly impacting our forests, leading to large-scale dieback and increased vulnerability to pests and droughts. This project tackles these challenges by planting a variety of tree species that are more resilient to climate conditions, including:

  • Native species with high adaptability (e.g., Sessile Oak)
  • Rare native species suited for warmer climates (e.g., Wild Service Tree)
  • European species naturally extending into Germany (e.g., Downy Oak)
  • Climate-adapted trees from other regions (e.g., Turkish Hazel)

Project Features

The forest will include 25 carefully selected tree species planted in small groups, connected by accessible trails and paths. Information boards will educate visitors, making the site a valuable resource for schools, families, and hikers.

Project Timeline:

  • Autumn 2024: Site preparation, including clearing underbrush
  • Spring 2025: Tree planting with individual protection from browsing animals
  • Summer 2025: Official opening during GNS’s 50th anniversary celebrations
The project will actively involve the local community, offering opportunities for volunteers and school groups to contribute through workdays and project days. The goal is to create a forest that fosters a sense of connection and shared responsibility among residents.

Double Your Impact

The Environmental Foundation Lippe is generously supporting the project by doubling every donation – up to a total of €5,000. This means every euro you donate will have twice the impact for the forest of the future!
