Solid waste management in Burundi

The Solid Waste Management in Urban Areas project addresses the critical problem of ineffective waste management in urban settings, which causes environmental pollution, health hazards, and resource inefficiencies. The initiative aims to support urban communities in Burundi by improving waste systems, raising public awareness, and empowering local stakeholders through education and capacity building. The project will proceed in phases, starting with community engagement and data collection to assess current practices and needs, followed by the development of financial and operational plans tailored to local contexts. It will then implement circular economy strategies, including waste reduction and recycling.  Furthermore, establish monitoring frameworks to evaluate progress and refine methods. This collaborative effort involves local governments, NGOs, community leaders, and international experts, with a timeline spanning 12-18 months. Donations are needed to fund educational campaigns, conduct surveys procure recycling, train stakeholders, and cover operational costs, ensuring the project’s success and long-term impact.
