About this project

Bürgerstiftung Waldhof from Bürgerstiftung Waldhof is responsible for this project
The construction of a constructed wetland is intended to establish healthy water cycles in the Waldhof district. Such a system functions like a planted soil filter that clarifies, purifies, and filters wastewater. The result is clean water that can partly be fed back into the buildings as service water! The constructed wetland thus mimics natural purification processes that occur in wetlands. It requires little technology and energy but functions very effectively. The development of the constructed wetland is planned to begin in 2025 together with great experts and interested and committed citizens from near and far - as an environmental education and participation project that, ideally, will also be transferable to other districts! It is an important first component of a comprehensive energy and material flow concept for a climate-positive future village Waldhof, which is currently unfortunately still entirely fossil-powered. The wastewater from the village flows to a maintenance-intensive compressed air pump, which then has to shoot the wastewater with a lot of energy over 60 meters in height and 3 km to the sewage system in Greifenstein. In the end, everyone will benefit - the environment and the people who work and live in the community-oriented future village Waldhof. The planning and implementation of a constructed wetland has different phases - therefore, new needs will continually arise in this project.
The planning and approval phase is expected to extend from early 2025 to mid-2026, and the implementation phase will then likely last about 6-12 months. Donations are needed for the coordination and equipment of educational and participatory workshops, as well as for individual external services that cannot be provided through voluntary work.
