Hands at Work in Africa (Germany) gGmbH
A project from Hands at Work in Africa (Germany) gGmbH in Luanshya, Zambia
For the regional center of the aid organization Hands at Work in Kachele (Zambia), we are building a solar system as a sustainable and stable power supply. From Kachele, 30 employees support over 5,000 children in need in 3 countries.

About this project

Peter Hagemann from Hands at Work in Africa (Germany) gGmbH is responsible for this project
We are building a sustainable and stable power supply for the Hands at Work regional center in Kachele (Zambia). The power supply in Zambia is highly dependent on hydropower. Unfortunately, the prolonged periods of drought this year have led to a sharp drop in water levels in the reservoirs. This has had a dramatic impact on the availability of electricity - including in Kachele, where there is currently often only around one hour of electricity available per day.

The center in Kachele is the heart of our work in the region:

  • A dedicated team of over 30 people live/work here, providing indispensable support for our projects.
  •  They coordinate 28 Care Points in Zambia, which provide around 3,000 children in need with access to meals, education and medical care.
  •  The team in Kachele also looks after our 4 service centers in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A solar power system makes Kachele independent of the insecure power supply and creates a stable basis for our work - day after day.
We are collecting for this project in Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Germany and the USA.

Hands at Work in Africa is a Christian aid organization that cares for vulnerable children in Africa. The focus of our work is to create a place where children receive reliable care, food, access to medical care and education. In this place, the children are together with other children, can play and can simply be children.
