About this project

Philipp S. from Kath. Kirchenstiftung St. Alexander (Gezubuso DE) is responsible for this project
A New Bus for the Sunshine Houses – Ensuring Education and Excursions

Who we are: Gezubuso Projects currently offers 42 foster children a loving home and secure prospects in four orphanages (Sunshine Homes) across KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.  The children live there together with dedicated foster mothers. Many of them have become orphans due to HIV/AIDS, others have been abandoned by their biological parents, severely neglected or rescued from violent circumstances. In the Sunshine Homes they find a place of safety and stability.

Gezubuso Projects supports the children by providing sheltering homes, clothing, food, transportation and schooling.  In addition, the foster mothers support and nurture the children in their everyday lives.

The problem: Our loyal bus, lovingly called “Old Sally”, was an indispensable companion for many years. She took the children safely to school, made excursions possible and was a symbol of reliability. But after many  years, Old Sally has ultimately reached the end of her life. The repairs are too expensive and not feasible.  A new bus is urgently needed to continue taking the children to school.

Why the bus is so important:
For the children at Sunshine Homes, the bus is much more than just a means of transportation. It ensures their education by taking them to school every day. It also allows them to have excursions that boost their awareness of the world, their sense of place, self-confidence and promote social skills. In South Africa, getting to school is a major hurdle for many children, as public transportation is often lacking, dangerous and unaffordable for families.

Our plan: With your support, we would like to purchase a reliable, second-hand kombi bus. This bus will enable the children to get to school safely and create shared experiences that will help them grow - personally and as a family.

Why we need your help: The purchase of a new bus exceeds our annual budget. Every donation we receive on this platform will go directly towards the purchase of the bus. Your contribution will ensure that children of Gezubuso Projects continue to go to school, and get the opportunities they deserve.

Together we can achieve great change - for the future of the children of Gezubuso Projects, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa! Thank you for being part of this important mission.

“We” are the whole Gezubuso Projects family: In South Africa, Gezubuso Projects has been a registered non-profit organization (033-191-NPO) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa since 2004. In Germany there has been a circle of supporters since 2004, which also takes care of fundraising (Gezubuso DE). Donations are administered by the Ottobeuren Pfarrkirchenstiftung.
