About this project

Saskia Walker from Stiftung COURAGE für chronisch kranke Kinder is responsible for this project
For children and teenagers living with chronic illnesses, daily life can revolve around hospital visits, treatments, and strict routines and diets. The COURAGE Foundation is dedicated to ensuring these young individuals experience the joy of friendship, moments of happiness, and the courage to overcome challenges. Through our annual two-week vacation camp, we provide a safe, supportive environment where children and teenagers with kidney and liver diseases can enjoy a true break. But we need your support to make it happen.

Why This Camp Matters
For children and teenagers aged 11 to 18 who spend much of their lives managing complex health conditions, many are on dialysis or recovering from kidney and liver transplants. At camp, they step into a world where they can focus on just being kids. Our Core Goals are :
  • Fostering Community: Children learn from and support one another, realizing they are not alone with their disease.
  • Engaging, Safe Activities: Our recreational programming is carefully tailored to meet medical needs, offering them a safe space to play and explore.
  • Relief for Families: Parents can rest assured that their children are cared for in a medically supported environment, giving them time to recharge.
  • Enhanced Understanding for Medical Staff: Our camp provides clinical staff an opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day needs of these children and teenagers outside of the clinical setting, leading to more personalized care.

Creating Positive Change for Families, Children and Teenagers
Each summer, about 25 young patients join us for two weeks of camp, forming meaningful connections with peers who understand their experiences. Camp activities are tailored to their medical needs, enabling children and teenagers to build friendships and develop essential skills for managing their conditions independently. Above all, they gain confidence and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

How Your Support Helps
The camp is funded through the generosity of supporters like you. When you give, it is to support ;
- the creation of activities and field trips,
- the accomodation and food,
- the transportation and general expenses.

A Word from One of Our Campers
"It’s just nice to be with people who have the same problem as you." shares Fynn, a 15-year-old dialysis patient.

Become a Part of Their Journey
Every contribution brings us closer to creating unforgettable memories and lifelong impact for these youngsters. With your support, we can offer a summer that could be transformative for each of them.
