About this project

Leoni Rossberg from Groundbreaker gGmbH is responsible for this project
Our Groundbreaker Talents initiative in Uganda offers young women from financially constrained communities the opportunity to undergo an intensive one-year training program in Software Engineering. During this period, the participants live on our beautiful campus, fully immersing themselves in the training. This residential learning approach equips them rapidly with all the necessary skills to start a career in the IT sector and promotes a sustainable way out of poverty.

Through our mentorship program, employees from various companies can become directly involved and guide the talents along their journey. The weekly exchange between scholars and mentors increases openness—one of the key pillars to drive diversity in the tech industry. To truly promote diversity in tech, we need a more diverse talent pool, opportunities to work with people from different parts of the world, and real chances to challenge biases. That’s exactly what makes the Talents program so special.

The numbers speak for themselves: After the pilot phase, all students were in paid internships or entry-level jobs in the tech industry within just 7 weeks. This shows that talent is equally distributed worldwide—opportunities, however, are not.
