About this project

Isabelle Roller from Watoto wa Nest e. V. is responsible for this project
The Nest project in Kenya has made it its mission to give children a future who would otherwise face a life on the streets. Many of these children come to the home because their mothers have been imprisoned—often for poverty-related offenses or because they could no longer care for their children at home. Abandoned children also find a safe home at The Nest.

The long-term goal of the project is to reintegrate the children and their mothers into their family units and society after their release from prison. The aim is to offer them a new perspective that not only keeps them off the streets but also contributes to the strengthening of the community.

The Children's Home of The Nest is located in Limuru, a small town about 20 km northwest of Nairobi. Here, up to 90 children between the ages of 3 and 18 find a loving home where they receive care, education, and medical attention. Since the completion of the main building in 1997, the Children's Home has helped many children regain hope for a better future.

The Children's Home consists of various buildings and spaces with different allocations: dormitories for girls and boys, a kindergarten, a building with a dining hall, a small library, a volunteer house, accommodations for staff, a playground, an external kitchen, a storage area for wood, as well as areas for sheep and chickens. Behind the playground, there is also a small agricultural plot for farming purposes. In addition, the children have access to an on-site primary school.

On an adjacent plot, a separate girls' house is currently under construction, which is still at the shell stage—only the walls have been erected so far. This house is intended to provide older girls with more privacy and better conditions, creating a safe and nurturing environment for them.

By supporting The Nest, you can make a valuable contribution to giving these children a future and keeping them off the streets. Every contribution counts—whether for the children's education, health, or sense of security. Let us work together to ensure that these children grow into confident young people who can take their futures into their own hands.
