A few words about us...

Jambo! We are a non-profit association from Duderstadt and support two primary schools (St Monica in Stone Town and St Barnabas in Mahonda) and a secondary school (St Paul) run by an Anglican organisation in Zanzibar (Tanzania). Our aim is to enable as many children as possible to attend school and to see them through to graduation. We arrange and maintain sponsorships that give the children a chance of a better future by financing their school attendance.
At St Barnabas School, we have launched the Food Project, which provides more than 150 children with a hot lunch every Thursday. Our Fruit Project is also a complete success in St Monica: fresh fruit is provided for all the children at the school every Friday. In close dialogue with the local teachers, we promote English lessons, expand art classes and advocate inclusion in order to integrate children with disabilities. Thanks to numerous voluntary donations, we have also been able to support the schools with donations in kind such as school books, exercise books and pens.

We are now facing two major challenges:

The roof of the school building at St. Monica School in Stone Town is in poor condition and lets water in when it rains. This makes it impossible for the school to hold classes for the children in bad weather, which significantly affects their education. Our aim is to build a new, stable roof so that the children can learn undisturbed - whatever the weather. To this end, we are collecting donations to finance the necessary renovation work. Together, we can ensure that the children can learn in a safe and pleasant environment and that the school building continues to be maintained.

More than 150 children currently attend the primary school at St. Barnabas. We have also successfully integrated children with disabilities here. In order to give the children more space to learn, we have launched our latest project together with the principal: the school extension at St. Barnabas. Unfortunately, the current premises are not sufficient to teach all the children in classrooms, which is why three new classrooms are to be built. We also want to create a new staff room where learning materials can be carefully stored. Together with the principal, we have drawn up the construction plan and plan to complete the four new rooms by the end of the year.

Every little bit of support counts and brings us one step closer to our goal.

Together we can achieve great things!
