About this project

Stephanie Röwe from ora Kinderhilfe international e. V. is responsible for this project
With this project in Malawi, we are working to ensure that children can attend school and graduate. Due to the poor state school infrastructure - there is a lack of schools, school materials, teachers, desks and benches, for example - many children do not even go to elementary school. To combat this, we are promoting needs-based learning for 18 months with our project "On the road to learning success - innovative learning with the TaRL approach in the Chikwawa region of Malawi". Our partner organization Community Forum (COFO) will work together with 12 schools to improve the education of over 12,000 pupils in the long term. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is supporting us financially with 75% of the costs. We would like to cover 25% of our own contribution with donations via Betterplace, among others.

As part of the project, teachers are trained to use the "teaching at the right level" method. Pupils are grouped into class groups according to their individual learning level rather than age. The group learns arithmetic, writing and reading together for 3 months, followed by a learning level assessment and the children are re-grouped according to their current learning level.
The children's parents take part in literacy courses so that they can better support their children in the learning process and learn to read and write themselves. In addition, awareness of the importance of education is being raised by stakeholders in all participating communities. District assemblies and workshops on education will ensure that the population remains committed to education in the region even after the project has ended.
