    About this project

Henriette from Tanzania Network e.V. is responsible for this project
Chief Mangi Meli ruled in Old Moshi, Tanzania and fought against the German colonial power. He was executed by the Germans in 1900. His head is presumably still in Germany today. However, the search for Mangi Meli's head has so far been unsuccessful.

To help Tanzanian schoolchildren learn about their own local history, our partner Old Moshi Cultural Tourism Enterprise has produced booklets that tell the story of resistance fighter Mangi Meli and other leaders who were hanged by the German colonial government in 1900. The printing of these booklets, which are intended for pupils in Arusha and the Kilimanjaro region, costs €3,000.

Old Moshi Cultural Tourism Enterprise is a registered company for cultural tourism in the Kilimanjaro region, Old Moshi, Tanzania. It was established in 2016 and officially registered by the Tanzania Tourist Board in 2017. They offer guided walks to cultural, historical and natural sites around the villages on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and in 2018, in collaboration with FlinnWorks, created a video sculpture and photo exhibition about Chief Mangi Meli.
