About this project

Tony Agutu Awiti from Farafina Institute e.V. is responsible for this project

Refugees, particularly those in urban areas, face immense challenges due to lack of formal documentation and education, hindering their access to employment and stability. However, within these challenges lies an opportunity for positive change. Our project aims to harness this potential in Kenya through the  implementation of series of activities aimed at promoting access to education, democratic governance, and equality for refugees. Our multinational team drawn from Germany, Kenya,Ghana and Eswatini plans to collaborate with local stakeholders to lay  the foundation towards the implement these activities throughout a 16-day stay in Kenya.

We intend to collaborate with relevant stakeholders on the following ways;

- Collaborating with Mental Health Organizations to discuss counseling access for refugees and methods to address nightmares and trauma, including involving traditional healers whose approaches align with cultural beliefs about mental health causes and treatments.

- Partnering with Skills Training Companies in tailoring, barbering, hairdressing, furniture making, and fabric production to establish training programs.

- To enhance refugee empowerment efforts, we will forge collaborations with organizations aiding refugees and less privileged individuals, including refugee-led organizations RLOs.

As a culminating event, we will host a live podcast with representatives from these collaborations, streamed on CMOR's social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X), integrated into the documentary.

 Our Short-Term Goal

Our goal is to visit various refugee camps in Kenya and extending our efforts to camps in Uganda. This will enable us to engage with refugees, understand their contexts and living conditions, and draw comparisons with European scenarios, forming the basis for awareness-raising initiatives. This will be facilitated through documentary filming, interviews, and sustained engagement with refugees during and after our visit.

Our long term Vision

Empowering Refugees:  through facilitating access to training technical skills  on carpentry, interior design and artistic production to promote self-reliance and economic empowermrent.

Fostering Democratic Governance;  through our  grassroots initiatives and multimedia advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting democratic principles that are key operationalizing the new legal frameworks supporting refugee intergration in Kenya.

Promoting dialogue through Performing Arts;  through collaboration with local artists, cultural institutions and refugee communities we intend to curate and show case artistic performance (poems, film, podcasts and documentaries) that challenge stereotypes about refugees, promote cultural diversity among host communities and mobilize global support towards refugees.

All donations will go towards , supporting our team of six's visit to Kenya, Accomodation, logistical costs for the workshops, Documentary production and finacial incentives for refugees.
