About this project

Raphael Moreno from PEN PAPER PEACE e.V. is responsible for this project
People with ADHD have a high risk of mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety disorders, as well as addiction and delinquency. According to studies, 80% of people diagnosed in adulthood have already developed a secondary disorder, 50% even two or more. With early diagnosis and adequate support, many of these complications could be avoided. In practice, however, ADHD is often not diagnosed or only diagnosed late, which experts attribute to a lack of information. That causes not only unnecessary suffering for those affected and their social environment, but also high social costs. In addition, valuable resources and potential are lost or insufficiently utilized.

What we intend to do
We believe that prevention is better than picking up the pieces afterwards. The earlier ADHD is identified, the greater the chance of minimizing the associated difficulties, avoiding secondary illnesses and making use of strengths. Together with educational and psychological specialists, we want to teach the necessary skills in workshops at schools. In this way, we can reach not only young persons affected, but also teachers and parents. This enables our educational work to have a broad and lasting impact. The content, methods and objectives of our workshops are tailored to the respective target groups:

  • We want to enable parents and teachers to recognize the symptoms of ADHD and make them aware of the resources associated with ADHD as well as the risk of secondary illnesses. The primary focus here will therefore be on psychoeducation and education about ADHD and its diverse symptoms. We also want to provide helpful techniques for dealing constructively with those affected as well as information about other offers of help to provide noticeable relief in everyday life.
  • In the school class workshops, we take an age-appropriate, indirect and experience-oriented approach so that everyone's interest is aroused and the stigmatization of individuals is avoided. Children with ADHD often suffer from academic failure and social exclusion, which can lead to self-esteem problems, compensatory behavior and secondary illnesses. The focus will therefore be on empowerment, preventing exclusion and discovering one's own qualities, in short: on everything that improves the relationship with oneself and others and promotes an appreciative approach to diversity.
What our project aims to achieve
The desired effect unfolds on three levels:

  • Individual: reduction in the number of unreported cases, prevention of comorbidities, promotion of strengths
  • Social: Relief in dealing with those affected
  • Societal: Long-term reduction in social and healthcare costs

We need your help for this! With your donation you enable us to organize workshops that raise awareness, mobilize resources and ultimately make life easier for many of the persons affected.
