Field Irrigation Against Famine - Drought in Chideza/Zambia

In Eastern Province and other parts of Zambia, it has hardly rained during the rainy season. The farmers have sown and will not harvest. Now there is a threat of famine. We will drill wells and use the water to irrigate the fields.

In Eastern Province and other parts of Zambia, there is an unusual drought during the rainy season. The situation is serious: farmers have sown, but without rain there will be no harvest. The maize has dried up and people are struggling with malnutrition and a lack of water.
Around 45% of the 2000 inhabitants of Chiteza are undernourished and urgently need our help. The idea is to irrigate fallow farmland in order to secure the harvest and improve the food situation. We will drill several wells and introduce efficient drip irrigation. These measures will not only provide the village with sufficient food, but will also support neighbouring communities and reduce malnutrition.
Through hydrogeological surveys, we will identify the best locations for wells in order to optimally plan the project. We will then start drilling around five 10-inch wells to access the vital water.
