Comic Festival Hamburg 2024

Hi! We‘re the Comicfestival Hamburg and we bring extraordinary culture to everyday spaces. To convey comic artistry to a wider audience we‘ve been presenting comics and graphic novels in art-spaces, shops and on walls across Hamburg-Mitte, every fall since 2006! We show internationally established artists, important figures of the german comic scene, as well as up and coming comic artists. Our free program includes a variety of different exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, readings, an art fair and a special childrens program that encourages reading and drawing.

For a comic festival one needs comic artists! Sadly it‘s still too often the case that artists have to exhibit their works for free or even carry costs themselves. We want to support our artists with higher pay for their work so we appreciate and look forward to every donation, big or small! 

Our comic festival has developed into one of the most important spaces of the german-speaking comic scene. It especially encourages international dialogue and collaboration and promotes young comic artists. We present unreleased works and connect artists, publishers and readers. By doing this we create valuable additions to Hamburgs cultural landscape and the german comic scene.

Since the beginning we‘ve always operated on the basis of voluntary work. Due to this continued engagement for almost two decades we’ve collected a great amount of experience and a wide-spread network in- and outside of the city. It‘s this alone that makes it possible for us to annually put on a festival of this size on such a small budget.

Right now we‘re in the middle of planning the upcoming festival, which will be held from the 4th until the 6th of october 2024.
