For an open society and free dialogue - the Munich Peace Conference

First the good news:
We finally have a new venue for our evening events! The evening events for the Munich International Peace Conference will take place on February 14 and 15, 2025 in the ballroom of the event location “smartvillage” at Rosenkavalierplatz 13 (U4 Arabellapark, 11 minutes from the main train station).
The renewed search for a room was not planned - but necessary. The Catholic Academy in Bavaria terminated our rental contract at short notice on December 13, 2024. Find out more in our press releases from 22.12.2024 and 24.01.2025 on our website https://friedenskonferenz.info.
Democracy needs debate
For over 20 years, the International Munich Peace Conference has provided a platform for civil society to discuss the causes of violent conflicts, peace strategies and conflict transformation. Especially in times of increasing wars and social polarization, freedom of opinion and open discourse are essential for our democracy.
Organizers and sponsors who want to provide a framework and space for freedom of expression and social discourse are currently under tremendous pressure. There is an unproductive fear of doing “the wrong thing”, although a critical discussion about German and Western foreign and security policy is urgently needed right now. Public and church funding has been cut and the rental contract for an appropriate and affordable event space has been terminated. These institutions, which should actually promote discourse, are preventing or making it more difficult to have critical discussions about German and “Western” foreign and “security” policy.
Where can we still have discussions today?
Municipal spaces are hardly an option for us anymore. After the Department of Culture canceled our funding in 2024 under pressure from the SPD and the Greens, our trust in the city has not exactly grown. And church spaces are apparently also uncertain. That leaves private providers, who are often booked out long in advance - or are simply too expensive.
But now we have the “smartvillage” in Bogenhausen! Not cheap, but space for 440 people at evening events!
Why your support is crucial now
We want to continue to create a space for critical reflection, non-violent political approaches and peace strategies - independent of political and economic interests. Our panels, workshops and cultural events bring together experts, activists and citizens to think about and shape paths to justice and peace.
Especially in times of growing authoritarian and right-wing extremist tendencies, it is crucial that critical voices are heard. For this, we need courageous supporters who defend open discourse.
Advance ticket sales
Tickets are available this year so that no one is left standing outside the door and we cover our costs. It's worth it - because the program is top-class: Heribert Prantl, Francesca Albanese, Gershon Baskin and many more.
