For many years, the Caring For Conservation Fund has been promoting species conservation as well as community work around the Luambe National Park in Eastern Zambia.
Since 2023, our focus has been on strengthening the surrounding communities in close proximity to Luambe. Due to extreme poverty and frequently occurring climatic extreme conditions, the living standards of many thousands of people are increasingly suffering. Access to clean water, sufficient food, the attendance and availability of educational facilities, employment opportunities, and adequate medical care are just some of the factors that frequently require extreme improvements. Additionally, human-wildlife conflicts often contribute to a negative relationship between humans and animals. Furthermore, nature and species conservation can only be successful if there are opportunities for communities to rely less heavily on natural resources.
Part of our mission is to enable secure access to clean water, promote "Alternative Livelihoods" to strengthen and diversify the job market, engage in environmental education, especially with schools, and understand and resolve human-wildlife conflicts. In addition to alternative livelihoods, we value the integration and leadership of the local population in conservation efforts. We prioritize the employment and temporary participation of the Zambian population to provide additional financial resources, especially through conservation work.
The implementing body for this project is a Zambian NGO: Nsanga Conservation Zambia Ltd. The team at Nsanga overlaps with some staff of the C4C Fund, allowing us to maximize the use of our financial resources and measure their impact effectively.
We plan the community initiatives as an ongoing project. From 2024 onwards, we will describe in annual reports how the funds have been utilized.
