The need for humanitarian aid is enormous
The entire population in Gaza depends on humanitarian aid and the majority of people faces hunger. Infectious diseases have spread because of unclean water, crowded shelters and destroyed infrastructure. At the same time, almost all hospitals have been damaged or destroyed by the fighting.
All people in Gaza are affected by the lack of food, water and medical aid. IRC teams are reporting alarming rates of severe and acute malnutrition in children under the age of five. IRC currently has 6.7 tons of urgently needed pharmaceutical and medical supplies to deliver to Gaza to provide urgent and life-saving care to thousands of people.
"Under International Humanitarian Law, Israel is obligated to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, regardless of whether or not the ceasefire holds.", said Bob Kitchen, vice president of Emergeny and Humanitarian Actions of the IRC. Right now, the delivery of emergency supplies to Gaza is now highly uncertain. "It’s imperative that aid access is now immediately resumed. With humanitarian needs sky high, more aid access is required not less."
