About this project

Ursula Ingrid Kannengiesser from FutureLink Earth gUG (haftungsbeschränkt) is responsible for this project
In the heart of the Peloponnese lies the mountain village of Pigadoulia, where I settled to pursue my calling as an animal protector. I had three options: Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR), a shelter, or the option of a sanctuary. Opting for the sanctuary route, I rented two neighboring houses and welcomed animals and volunteers. Together, over the past four years, we've created a harmonious sanctuary where both people and animals thrive - the DrDolittle Sanctuary.

Currently, our volunteer house provides comfort and care for 8 cats and 6 dogs. Although stray cats and village dogs occasionally visit, they never stay longer than necessary, respecting the natural balance we've established. Our sanctuary currently cares for 15 cats, 6 dogs, several village strays, and emergencies brought to our attention. It's essential to me that we let the animals themselves decide what constitutes an appropriate pack size, as I want to avoid territorial conflicts. At the moment, that's 21 animals. Regarding volunteers, I've opted for stays between 3 weeks and 6 months to foster connections.

At the DrDolittle Sanctuary, we measure our social impact in terms of the inner happiness, health, and self-responsibility we impart. Since 2022, our volunteers' feedback has consistently been over 80% in every parameter.

In 2023, I founded FutureLink Earth gUG, a German NGO that leads the DrDolittle Sanctuary as a pilot project. With the support of future donors and sponsors, my vision is to expand the sanctuary and establish another volunteer house, providing protection for more village cats and stray dogs. Through socialization efforts, we strive to set a touching example within the village community. Already, we see progress as neighbors begin to neuter their dogs and seek treatment for illnesses.

Looking ahead, I envision a network of volunteer houses that promote not only animal welfare but also sustainable practices such as Terra Preta production. Through the dedication of passionate individuals in each village, we can bring about significant change in animal and environmental conservation. I deliberately chose the sanctuary model and the power of volunteers to create a life worth living for many.

To continue making this dream a reality, the DrDolittle Sanctuary requires ongoing support from a core group of individuals willing to donate €3, €5, €10, or even €20 per month for at least one year. Each secure "income" makes our essential work more predictable. We remain the sole point of contact for several villages and the animals that would otherwise be left alone on the streets and in misery.

So, I urge you to heed my call and join us: Please become sponsors and supporters of the DrDolittle Sanctuary in Greece."
