About this project

Our project focuses on the children's book Brundibár. How Aninka and Pepíček defeated the organ grinder. As a sign of solidarity with Ukrainian Children and Hebrew-speaking children, a Ukrainian and a Hebrew edition have been produced with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. We will give these books at our planned events to Ukrainian and Hebrew-speaking children. The story of "Brundibár" conveys the importance of solidarity, friendship and humanitiy, messages that are especially important for children who face war and terror in these days. However. as our project is aimed at all children, we also wish to give German books as a gift for our young guests.
We are delighted that the General Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera Vladimir Jurowski has taken on the Patronage of our
Brundibár-Reading-and Gift-Project 2025
Update 2 March 2025: In view of what happenend and what is happening since President Selenskij met with Trump in the Oval Office, we want to give books to Ukrainian children as a sign of our support and our sincere appreciation of the courage and integrity of President Wolodymyr Selenskij.
This is what we plan:
- Kick-off event for the reading series for children. Reading with an actor/an actress, a concert-pianist and young singers.
- Special guest: our inspirator and "Brundibár-Ambassador", the opera director Mstislav Pentkovsky, Riga. The starting photo is from his Brundibár-production.
- Brundibár reading series for children in Berlin and elsewhere. With a beautiful old barrel-organ, as befits the organ-grinder "Brundibár" in the opera. This is made possible by a member of Room 28.
