About this project

sustainability, improving living conditions through education & practical solutions. It will feature a seminar hall, accommodations, solar power, water filtration, and composting toilets, serving as a multifunctional facility for all community members. We will first host a 13-day intensive Permaculture Design Course for trainers and multipliers willing to train others in understanding the concept of sustainability to empower others with life-changing skills to further enhance living conditions. All trainings will be
rendered within the framework of cultural exchange, awareness, sensitivity, incorporating socio-emotional learning and intentional community building.
In year one, 20 unemployed men and women with an interest in building selected through consultation with the village chiefs and families will construct the Learning Center within five months. Once constructed, the Learning Center will serve as a space for workshops, trainings, community meetings and a free library for GI and other charity collaborator projects. The two-story structure will accommodate 40 people, with its own solar power system, water collection and filtration systems, composting toilets and a kitchen. A key aspect of the project will be to build a Nature Trail that begins at the Learning Centre.
Locals will be trained to become tour guides, not only bringing economic activity funding ongoing projects but allowing local people and international tourists to continue to learn about and foster pride in the unique biodiversity of the region. A second key aspect will be a youth Maker Space. GI will work collaboratively with teachers to make sure that all children are given a fair and equal opportunity to take part in projects and enjoy the space.
Each day, 20 children will have the opportunity to engage in beach clean-ups, art making, working with plastic materials, recycling, upcycling and thereby fostering eco-awareness, responsibility and skills for future employment such as sea turtle conservation.
By the end of the project, 20 young men and women will be fully trained in alternative construction as part of a continuous 4-month Green Building apprenticeship program (earth building, alternative energy, solar panels, rainwater collection and filtration systems, alternative waste solutions and compost toilets), and will be educated on the harms of using chemical fertilisers and pesticides and practising illegal logging.
