About this project

Diana Mubarakshina from Upsala-Circus gGmbH is responsible for this project
What is the performance "45 Minutes" about?
Working on "45 Minutes" is a space to build a dialogue between teenagers aged 8 - 13 who were born and raised in Germany and teenagers who have been forced to move and start a new life in a new place.

A performance with teenagers from the city of Zeitz (Saxony-Anhalt) who don't communicate with each other at school and exist in closed language bubbles, but will meet in Upsala-Circus and, using the language of modern circus, contemporary and documentary theater, will talk about what they really care about:
Why can teachers raise their voices?
Will I meet my first love at school?
Why do classmates hurt each other?
Can teens speak out loud about what they really care about?
What makes teenagers smile when they are at school?

School is a reflection of the problems that exist in society. Through an honest conversation with teenagers, we want to open a room to be heard and draw the attention of adults to what concerns them.
Many different teenagers are living completely separate lives.

Preparation for the performance includes:
Development of juggling, acrobatics, parkour, dance, working on the musical accompaniment in the co-creation of teenagers and musicians. Work on documentary theater with the director of the documentary theater.
The work-in-progress performance will be shown on March 22.
What is Upsala-Circus?
Upsala-Circus works in the field of contemporary circus - it is a democratic art form. For 22 years we have been realizing social and cultural projects, firmly believing that education and culture are tools to solve and overcome social problems and challenges in society.
Upsala-Circus is located in Germany and Russia, and is developing: a professional troupe, an inclusive center, and programs for children from social risk groups. In our work we use the Upsala-Circus method, based on the combination of two directions - contemporary art and circus pedagogy.
Why are we doing this?
Since April 2022, a part of the Upsala-Circus team has also become migrants, and we now create circus and cultural projects in the small city of Zeitz in East Germany. We believe that by using creative tools it is possible to overcome the social exclusion of people with migrant and refugee experiences, to increase the level of safety in cities, which will lead to a better quality of life and more attractive living in them.
Where will the money go?
By supporting this project, you give young circus artists the opportunity to develop creatively and physically, to make friends. To implement the project we need to purchase additional circus props, pay for the work of coaches who work with children in different circus disciplines.
