Supporting sick children and young people in the Kaiserslautern area

The Förderkreis kranker Kinder Kaiserslautern e. V. has been active in the field of pediatric care for more than 25 years. As a non-profit organization, we support children and young people in their recovery and to make their journey as pleasant and child-friendly as possible. 
To this end, we work primarily with the children's hospital at the Westpfalz-Klinikum Kaiserslautern and support projects that could not have been financed due to a lack of funding. 

For example, we regularly equip the playrooms on wards 20/4 and 20/5 of the children's hospital with toys, games and craft materials and have been helping to fund a childcare worker for years.
To provide a distraction from illness and everyday hospital life, we finance regular visits by the Clown Doctors e. V. to the children's hospital wards. Through their performances, they convey a positive attitude to the patients and allow them to forget their worries, at least for a while. 
We also offer sound therapy in collaboration with the percussionist and drummer Roland Weimer, which is particularly effective for premature babies and newborns. This form of therapy also has a relaxing effect on them and is reflected in their vital signs, among other things. But sound therapy also provides a moment of relaxation and calm for the parents present. 
In addition, we offer parents of premature and newborn babies on ward 20/2 a parents' room as a place of retreat while still being able to stay close to their child. 

In order to enable children to have constant direct contact with their parents even during a longer stay, we provide accompanying persons with a long journey to the hospital with an apartment with space for up to three pairs of parents in the immediate vicinity of the Westpfalz-Klinikum. In this way, we create a cost-effective alternative to conventional overnight accommodation.
 
We also support the recovery of children and adolescents at a medical level by co-financing further training for nursing staff and medical equipment, which cannot be covered by the hospital budget alone. In this way, diagnostics can be made more accurate and often less stressful for children.

We finance our work exclusively through donations from third parties. As our members work on a voluntary basis, we are able to direct all donations to where they are actually needed. And because we work independently, we can ensure that even large purchases are always made in the interests of the health of children and young people and that no money is wasted.
