About this project

Marc Kopitzki from ensemble reflektor e.V. is responsible for this project
At the core of our of our Programme is the Serenade in D for Orchestra composed by the activist and multifaceted artist Dame Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), who lived and worked also during the Victorian era, a time where misogyny and tradition were at the core of British and European society and yet Smyth‘s music is and remains full of purpose, inspiration and ingenuity.
With our First Conductor Holly Hyun Choe, we strive to give the Serenade its proper and deserving place in the canon repertoire of classical music by not only performing it in concerts but recording our interpretation for posterity. It is our wish to bring this underrepresented and wrongfully silenced music back into the limelight, where we firmly believe it does indeed belong.
We combine Smyth‘s music with two works commissioned by ensemble reflektor in cooperation with PODIUM Esslingen „SIEBEN LETZTE WORTE - KEIN ERLÖSER AM KREUZ“ by Ying Wang and inti figgis-vizueta.
We very much appreciate your support in making this project happen!
