About this project

Birte Lange from Kölner Flüchtlingsrat e.V. is responsible for this project
Alidad has been living in the city of Cologne for 8 years and has built a new life for himself and his family after fleeing from the Taliban. In the last 8 years, Alidad has completed his asylum procedure and has been recognized as a refugee. At the same time, the businessman has completed further vocational training and is working tirelessly to offer his family a secure and stable future. However, the path to reuniting his family is proving to be a challenging odyssey.

Back in Afghanistan, Alidad had to leave his wife and two minor children behind. They are confronted with the harsh reality of life in a country marked by war and conflict. Back in the summer of 2021, we registered the family with Alidad for an appointment to apply for family reunification at the German Embassy in Islamabad. After 2.5 years, the appointment is finally due to take place. Unfortunately, these waiting times are the norm for Afghan families.

However, the journey to the embassy is fraught with danger, especially for Alidad's wife and daughter. To minimize these risks, the families have to stay in Islamabad for a year after the embassy appointment to wait for their visas to be processed. This is the minimum time between application and visa issue (see https://pakistan.diplo.de/pk-de/service/-/2370756, accessed 16.11.2023)

Alidad is determined to provide for his wife and children, but faces the financial burden of feeding them from afar. The cost of rent, food and daily necessities has made their resources scarce both in Cologne and in Afghanistan. Alidad and his family also face high costs for the family reunification procedure itself. The visas themselves and document checks have to be paid for.

This is where you come in. We would like to support Alidad and his family during this challenging time through this fundraising campaign. Your contributions will help ease the financial burden and ensure that the family has a safe place to stay in Islamabad while they wait for their visa.

Any donation, no matter how large, will have a significant impact on this family's path to a secure future.
