About this project

Tabea Bulambo-Riziki from Kontaktmission e.V. is responsible for this project
In the rural region outside the big city of Bukavu, South Kivu, eastern Congo,
in the middle of the tropics, there is no hospital for the poorest of the poor.
No walking access to medical care, no health insurance. Income is less than $1.5/day
for 85% of the population. If a person is hospitalized, they are held as collateral
in the hospital until a benefactor covers the costs or the family pays off everything.
Mothers have an average of 5 children, in absolute terms there are many families
with 12+ children, mother and child mortality is very high, outpatient therapy
is hardly possible.
With a doctor's practice and, in the course of the construction of a hospital, we as the JeremieProject
Congo want to bring health care to the people. Practical, outpatient but also educational:
There will be consultation hours on the topics: sexuality, family planning, hygiene,
nutrition, infectious diseases and also prenatal care, pregnancy support,
outpatient medical treatment and outpatient operations.
The focus is on children and women and their families.
We already have a Christian social project underway and the shell construction
of the doctor's office has started. Further steps include completing the construction
through donations, carrying out the interior work, furnishing it, starting it up and
using microinsurance to help people get easy access to the doctor.
The practice's employees are exclusively locals. They know culture, languages and
prevalent diseases. Of course, they have to fit into the criteria that our local
association always uses to choose workers.
The practice is run by our association Jenga Tumaini, which has been established
in the region for several years working with us as Jeremie Project Congo.
As soon as sufficient donations have been collected, the construction of the
practice will be completed, we hope that this will happen during 2025.
The donations finance the materials that are purchased locally, the construction
workers and craftsmen who live in the region, and the ongoing costs of the
doctor's office in order to be able to practice medicine.
