Enabling education in Lao - aid project "Okad Tisong"

Together with our cooperation partners, we support educational and aid projects all over the world. One of these projects is the "Okad Tisong" aid project in Laos. Girls and women in particular suffer from human trafficking and forced prostitution there. We support our partner organisation CO-OPERAID in rehabilitating and reintegrating the girls affected through education.

In the city of Savannakhet, a hub for human trafficking across the border to Thailand, an organisation we support runs a women's shelter. It offers the girls a safe home where they receive comprehensive care. In order to reintegrate them into society in the long term, they can catch up on their primary school education and vocational courses are offered.

The rural, ignorant population in Laos is particularly affected by human trafficking. The victims are taken from their home villages under false promises to karaoke bars where they are forced into prostitution. Other victims are exploited in factories or in private households. Every year, hundreds of girls and young women cross the national border (Thailand, Cambodia, China), unaware of the danger of entering modern slavery.
