Al Manhaj’s Ability Centre in North Lebanon is a crucial support system for about 80 children, aged 18 months to 18 years, with varying degrees of physical and mental disabilities. Led by a clinical psychologist, the center is the only of its kind in the area and upholds high standards of care, offering essential services such as education, physical therapy, nursing care, and nutrition.
Situated in an abandoned university campus in Abou Samra, Tripoli, nearly 70% of the children at the Center are Syrian refugees, and most of their families are financially disadvantaged. The Ability Center is the sole refuge in North Lebanon for these children, filling a vital gap in services for a population left unsupported by the Lebanese government.
The center operates on a tight budget, and is currently struggling with escalating energy costs. The national energy crisis in Lebanon leaves the Center with 2 hours of electricity per day on average. To meet the remaining energy needs, the center relies on expensive and polluting diesel generators.
Aid Pioneers is taking action by supporting the Ability Center through the installation of a solar system. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of high electricity costs. Once the solar system is in place, it will provide reliable, clean, and essentially free electricity for the center, ensuring the continuation of its operations and the care and education of up to 80 children.
The transition from diesel generators to solar energy will not only free up funds but also improve the quality of education, caretaking, and treatment. To make this vision a reality, the Al Manhaj "Ability Center" requires a €10K solar system consisting of 18 solar panels, two inverters, and two lithium batteries, along with accessories for panel installation and a steel structure for system mounting and tilting.
Your support will make a lasting impact on the lives of these children.
