Caged for life, driven out of their habitat or ruthlessly hunted – this is the fate of countless wild animals. Even though many of these activities are illegal, wild animals continue to be tortured in the worst way every day. From brown bears in Romania to pangolins in Vietnam and sloths in Suriname, we are committed to helping big and small wild animals around the world:
In Vietnam ...
- we rescue and care for Asian black bears and Malayan bears, which, as "bile bears", have their bile extracted for sale in a painful and now illegal procedure.
- we also work against illegal poaching and provide confiscated pangolins, civets and martens with better first aid, good recovery and reintroduction into the wild.
In Indonesia ...
- where more and more deadly human-animal conflicts occur, we are on duty with elephant patrols and convey more understanding for the animals through educational work.
In Myanmar ...
- one of the last countries still using working elephants, we are taking action against violent practices in their keeping and are providing better care for the animals.
In Cambodia ...
- where the traditional gifting of wild animals to monasteries is well-intentioned but causes major animal welfare problems, we are strengthening knowledge building among monks and supporting the care of wild animals in need.
In Romania ...
- we offer former zoo and circus bears, animals seriously injured in human-animal conflicts or orphaned young bears protection and a bear-friendly home in Europe's largest bear sanctuary.
In Suriname ...
- due to increased deforestation, sloths are more and more often found disoriented and injured in the middle of the cities. We support Suriname's only local wildlife conservation center to date in the rescue, care and reintroduction of these animals.
