About this project

Anke W. from Keks e.V. is responsible for this project
KEKS focuses on supporting people who are born with a non-passable esophagus, an esophageal atresia. Without immediate help, these children are bound to die. Every year, around 200 children are born with esophageal atresia in Germany.

KEKS helps!
KEKS patients are not healthy after the life-saving operation. Two thirds require special care for the rest of their lives. Many must have multiple surgeries and learn to eat painstakingly. Some have accompanying malformations, and many patients struggle with reflux and massive lung problems.

KEKS connects!
We network with experts nationally and internationally to ensure that children, and later adults, receive the right treatment.

Once a year, we organize a nationwide meeting with those affected, their families, treating physicians and therapists. In addition, there are smaller regional meetings for mutual support in everyday life.

KEKS informs!
We create easy-to-understand information (brochures, flyers, books, homepage) and advise the families and affected persons. With our KEKS-Medicine-Team we offer professional advice by specialists also for non-members.

We are financed by donations, the contributions of our members and by grants as well as by the funds of the Erika Reinhardt Foundation.  You can find a detailed list of our finances here.
