About this project
The carillon of the St. Nikolai memorial located in the heart of Hamburg inspires thousands of people from all over the world every year. Whether young or old, when the 51 bells of the carillon in the listed steeple of the former St. Nikolai church destroyed in World War II begin to play, people gather in the public square of the former nave, open to all, to listen to the music - and to watch, because our carillon is not only audible but also completely visible. It is an unique sound experience!
This year the carillon celebrates its 30th birthday. However, now we need your help, so that it can continue to play for all visitors and residents of Hamburg for many years to come!
The suspensions of the bells mallets on the individual bells of the carillon urgently need to be replaced. Due to the special situation of the memorial as a listed building, this replacement is not only quite complex, but also expensive: the professional replacement will cost over 30,000 €.
This is a very big challenge for our non-profit association, that wants to preserve the memorial as a place of remembrance for the victims of the bombings in the context of the National Socialist war of extermination.
We would be very thankful if you could help us financing the replacement of the suspensions on the carillon - and thus support our work as a memorial and our many offerings for visitors and Hamburg residents!
Thank you very much for your support!
