About this project
Serial transnational world heritage
As "European arch bridges of the late 19th century", six bridges in four European countries are jointly applying to become a "serial transnational world heritage site". This is a pioneering process: it contributes to understanding between peoples, conveys knowledge about the unique cultural assets and their connection against a historical background. It sharpens the view for the achievement and the pioneering spirit of the bridge builders as well as the beauty and aesthetics of their works. It creates an understanding of the fact that these testimonies to great engineering art are worth preserving for future generations. And last but not least: it makes you want to get to know the unique monuments in their surroundings, to marvel at them on site.
Friends and sponsors
But the road is long and costly. It has to be carefully paved and it requires good equipment, above all a sustainable financial structure. Therefore, it is the task of the support association of the Müngsten Bridge World Heritage Site to first create the conditions at the national level to win friends and sponsors. This is also being done with the European partners. Finally, a foundation is to be set up, supported by all those involved, with its headquarters in Solingen.
We have already taken the first important steps and reached the first milestones.
The purpose of the association is to support all efforts on the way to UNESCO World Heritage. You too can become a pioneer of the World Heritage project.
