About this project

Anika Rennspieß from Deutsche NaturfilmStiftung gGmbH is responsible for this project
The declared goal of the Deutsche NaturfilmStiftung is to promote nature and environmental education
using audio-visual media, to support the nature film industry, to offer a platform and to connect nature
filmmakers with each other.
Because film plays a central role in nature education: it transfers knowledge, explains connections and shows
ecological deficits. But above all, with it's presence and it's emotional approach, film makes a major contribution
to inspiring people of all ages for nature.

It is to the credit of the nature filmmakers to bring endangered animal species and nature into people's
living rooms and to arouse interest in them - because people only want to protect what they know and appreciate.
Animal and nature films therefore make a significant contribution to effective nature protection.

For this reason, the Deutsche NaturfilmStiftung wants to honor filmmakers and offer them support for their
often difficult work, which involves a great deal of effort.

The Darsser NaturfilmFestival offers exactly this platform, of which the Federal Environment Minister
Steffi Lemke is currently the patron.
It has been held every October on the Fischland-Darss-Zingst peninsula since 2005 and presents the best current
nature films, with the winners receiving the Deutschen NaturfilmPreis (German Nature Film Award).

In addition, forums and workshops are offered as part of the festival's supporting program, which serve to
exchange ideas between filmmakers and those interested in the subject on current topics and challenges.

The Deutsche NaturfilmStiftung is non-profit and financed almost entirely by funding, sponsors and donations.
Two full-time employees take care of planning, organization, coordination, accounting, funding applications,
proof of use and much more throughout the year. During the festival, they are supported by many
extremely motivated volunteers who come from all over Germany. Without them, the festival with 8 screens/venues
and over 50 film screenings, multivision shows, readings, specialist forums and guided tours into the national
park would not be possible.

But despite this help, the costs are immense and funds are scarce. Since the acquisition of new sponsors is
becoming more and more challenging according to the current economic situation and funding can only be used to a
very limited extent for film festivals based on their funding criteria, support on a basis of donations is
becoming increasingly important for us.

Therefore we ask you:
Support our work in nature film and donate for the continued existence and further development of the Darsser
NaturfilmFestival.
