    About this project

Matthias Ewering from Deutsche Kinderhospiz Dienste e.V. Schwerin is responsible for this project
According to the German Children's Hospice Association, more than 270 children and adolescents in Schwerin and the surrounding districts have life-shortening illnesses. They die as children or adolescents. This process often drags on for years, during which the children slowly and inexorably lose more and more of their abilities until they finally die. In this difficult situation, the Outpatient Children's and Youth Hospice Service Löwenzahn offers support to families in Schwerin and the surrounding districts.

We offer support - well-trained volunteers accompany children and young people with life-shortening illnesses in their families. Support for siblings and parents is also possible and often makes sense - during the illness, but also after the death of the affected child. The volunteers thus create additional quality of life and joy of life in the families.

We also want to promote self-help. Under the motto and in the project "You never walk alone", affected families network with each other. This provides support, help and encouragement. This also applies to the network work by making the entire support network of children's hospice work, from inpatient children's hospices to counselling services to specialised care services, accessible to those affected. The development of the network is very personnel-intensive and is not subsidised by the health insurance companies to the tune of one cent, but in order to be able to do all this, we need you. You can help.

Another focus of our work is the accompaniment of children and adolescents with life-threatening acute illnesses; they all suffer from diseases such as infantile cerebral palsy, epilepsy or cancer.  Parents and children are in a particularly dire situation in the case of acute life-threatening illnesses.

The Outpatient Children's and Youth Hospice Service Löwenzahn has its office at Klöresgang 4-6. As a family affected, you can contact them here. But not only that. Volunteers are also trained here so that they can accompany the families professionally, and we network with partners who also support these families: either through their field of work or through donations.

Help us! Make a donation to support the sick children and their families. Thank you very much!
