About this project

B. Schilling from Konvoi der Hoffnung Karlsruhe e. V. is responsible for this project
A wheelchair for every physically challenged child! Reuse of used wheelchairs as "waste prevention".

These are the premises of this project. There are a lot of physically handicapped children. Very many of them have no way of getting a wheelchair or a comparable means of transport from the state, from their parents or from an insurance company.

In addition, these children are often hidden from the public, from the social environment, because it is improper in their culture, or because it is a punishment from God, because the parents are ashamed... There are numerous "reasons" for this.

These children have no social contacts, often enough they vegetate motionless in the corner of a room or a hut.

A wheelchair could help them break out of the vicious circle of isolation, lack of schooling and, in most cases, hunger.

We have wheelchairs for children here. The children are getting bigger, the wheelchair is too small. After some time there is a new wheelchair. The old one will be disposed of. It doesn't have to be, it can't be.

The wheelchair that is no longer needed can be reused, it could make life easier for a child in the third world.

For this purpose, it is serviced, tested and upgraded for the peculiarities of the Third World in our wheelchair workshop in Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg). But that is not free. Therefore we ask for donations.

The wheelchair has to go to our workshop in Karlsruhe. Two full-time employees and many volunteers work there. The workshop costs rent and heating. Spare parts have to be bought. Ultimately, the wheelchair must be packed and shipped.

An average of €60 costs (plus transport) are incurred for a wheelchair. That's not much, but many wheelchairs have to be processed in this way. Incidentally, they are not shipped individually, but in a sea container or large truck together with other aids.

Therefore we ask for donations.
