About this project

10% - 15% of all women between puberty and menopause develop endometriosis. Even conservative estimates speak of 40,000 new cases in Germany every year. This makes endometriosis the second most common gynaecological disease.
Endometriosis is caused by benign cysts and tumours in the lower abdomen, which settle, for example, on the ovaries, intestines or peritoneum. The consequences are chronic inflammation, severe, chronic abdominal pain, bleeding in the abdominal cavity and often infertility. Endometriosis is the cause of about 40 to 60% of women who remain involuntarily childless.
Despite the high prevalence and the serious effects, the disease is little perceived by society. Most of those affected have never heard of endometriosis before their diagnosis. It can take up to 10 years from the onset of symptoms to diagnosis.
About us
We are a nationwide self-help organisation by and for endometriosis sufferers. Our association has over 3,000 members. Our core tasks are to educate and inform about endometriosis, to advise those affected and to strengthen the position of patients. To this end, we run the only free counselling centre on endometriosis in Germany, support over 80 self-help groups throughout Germany, publish independent information material, operate several social media channels and carry out campaigns to educate and inform.
Our work, especially the education and public relations work, is having an effect: more and more people affected and their partners are coming to us with their questions.
We want to further expand our self-help and counselling services.
For this we need your support!
